Workers attached to several estates in Norwood area hoisted black flags and engaged in a protest demanding a one thousand rupees salary.

Earlier, estate owners agreed to pay a consolidated salary of 940 per day during a meeting held between the two factions.

However, estate workers unions rejected the proposal.

Meanwhile, estate superintendents state that the daily salary for estate workers could not be increased up to 1000 rupees due to existing price for Sri Lankan tea in the world market and the high production cost.
