The Department of Agriculture has issued a warning of a fast-spreading type of caterpillar in the districts of Ampara, Anuradhapura and Kurunegala.

The department states that agricultural crops could be affected with this particular worm identified as the Fall Armyworm.

Fall worms can destroy thousands of acres of crops such as paddy, maize and vegetable in just one night.

The department further requests farmers to contact extension officers for advice and use insecticide to ward off the worm.
