The President and Prime Minister are reportedly met at the president’s official residence this morning, to hold discussions on the proposed new alliance to contest in the forthcoming general election.
former minister, Basil Rajapaksa was also present at the meeting.
In depth discussions were had relating to forming an alliance with other political parties such as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
Meanwhile reports state that Joint Opposition coalition leaders and the SLFP Group of 15 had participated in a meeting yesterday with former minister Basil Rajapaksa.
A proposal was made at this meeting, to either contest under a new alliance – Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Peramuna or to contest as Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna under the election symbol of a flower bud.
Other parties to join in the new alliance are Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, Pivituru Hela Urumaya and the Democratic Left Front.
Meanwhile, addressing a media conference in Horana, former MP Vidura Wickramanayake stated that the election should be contested under the flower bud.
