UNP motion to suspend funds for ministers entered into order papers

A motion filed by a group of UNP MPs stating that the Prime Minister’s secretary has no power to approve any government expenditure, is reported to have been entered into the Order Paper, according to parliament sources.

A senior parliamentary spokesman told our news team that it has been entered into the Order Paper for November 29th.

MPs Navin Dissanayake, Ravi Karunanayake, Nalaka Prasad Kolonne, Kavinda Jayawardana, Hector Appuhamy and Chathura Senanayake have handed over this letter citing that the Prime Minister’s secretary, has no such powers, as a no-confidence motion was passed against Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In addition, another group of UNP MPs has filed a motion citing that no payment should be paid to ministers, deputy and state ministers and their private staff as a no-confidence motion is passed against the government.

Their motion further states that the new government should not pay for local or overseas travel made by ministers, deputies, state ministers and their staff.

MPs Rajitha Senarathna, Ravi Karunanayake, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Arjuna Ranatunga, Mano Ganeshan and Jayampathi Wickramarathna have signed off on the motion.

Meanwhile, the UNP vows not to give up its fight to regain ruling power.

Addressing a media conference held at Temple Trees today, MP Lakshman Kiriella said the appointment of new secretaries to ministries has also become null and void.
