The Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya told before the Supreme Court today that the powers of parliament have been reduced instead of the powers of the president under the 19th Amendment.

He was making the submissions today for the second day with regard to the 13 petitions that challenged the Gazette issued by the president dissolving parliament.

Later, making submissions by the mediating factions commenced and, later, the hearings were adjourned for tomorrow.

Making his submission for several hours, the Attorney General who quoted 70th Clause of the Constitution stated that that Clause is relevant to parliament and it itself cannot dissolve until parliament completes 4 and half years term.

Therefore, he said, under the 19th Amendment, even parliament members cannot dissolve it though they pass a resolution within the house.

The Attorney General who quoted Clause 32-2 of the Constitution said that the President has powers to dissolve parliament at any time.

Later, the hearings were adjourned for tomorrow.
