Mahinda’s petition against Interim Injunction to be called this Friday

The Supreme Court ordered today to hear the petition filed by former president Mahinda Rajapaksa challenging the Interim Injunction issued by the Court of Appeal against the Prime Minister and the cabinet of ministers, this Friday.

122 MPs have been named as respondents.

Appearing for the petitioner’s faction, president’s counsels Gamini Marapana and Romesh de Silva told the court that their clients cannot function in their portfolios following the order issued by the Appeals Court.

They pleaded with the Supreme Court to consider this as a national issue and hear the petition.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal decided to hear the Quo Warrantor Writ petition filed by the UNP against Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa and the cabinet of ministers daily, effective January 16 next year.
