At that juncture, Opposition Leader, Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the current government does not have the right to discuss a new constitution.

He then challenged the premier to call for a general election and put forward the proposals before  voters.

At that moment, TNA Leader, R Sampandan said that the country is in need of a  new constitution.

Meanwhile, JVP leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that there is no consensus even within the steering committees.
