The Department of Agriculture says that the fall army worm, known as SENA caterpillar, could cause damages to paddy cultivations as well.

Director General of the Department W.M.W.Weerakoon said that therefore, university students of agriculture faculties will be deployed to inspect agricultural lands.

48,000 out of 81,000 hectares of corn cultivations have been destroyed by the fall army worm.

Meanwhile, Minister of Plantation Industries Naveen Dissanayake said that a ministerial committee has been appointed to find prompt solutions to the issue.
