A group from the TNA left  for Geneva to attend the 40th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

MP S Sridharan left yesterday, while  former Northern Provincial Councillor MK Sivajilingam left this morning.

The resolution presented to the UNHRC by the Core Group on promoting reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka will be considered by the 40th session of the UN Human Rights Council on March 20th.

the resolution co-sponsored by Sri Lanka will be taken up for consideration during the sessions on March 21st.

Meanwhile, Sivajilingam said that he expects to hand over a petition to the UN requesting that Sri Lanka not be granted an extension in time,  to implement the pledges.

Leaders of the Telo, Plot, EPRLF, TULF and TNPF have been the signatories to this petition.

Foreign Minister, Tilak Marapana, MP Dr Sarath Amunugama, Northern Provincial Governor Dr Suren Raghawan, Foreign Ministry Secretary Ravinatha Ariyasinghe and Deputy Solicitor General Nerin Pulle are scheduled to leave for Geneva to represent the Government.
