Police curfew re-imposed in the North Western Province and Gampaha from 7pm; 78 arrested for unruly behaviour

Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera says that curfew will be imposed from 7 pm onwards in the north western province, and the Gampaha police division once again.

Police curfew is active till 4 am tomorrow.

Gampaha, Minuwangoda, Dompe, Ganemulla, Kirindawela, Malwathuhiripitiya, Meerigama, Nittambuwa, Pugoda Weyangoda, Weeragula, Weliweriya, Pallewela and Yakkala police divisions fall under the Gampaha police division.

Meanwhile, 78 individuals have been arrested in connection with the tense situations which erupted in the north western province and the Gampaha police division.

Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera expressed these views during the media briefing held at the ministry of defense media center today in order to inform regarding the security situation.

Operations Director of the Anti Corruption force Namal Kumara was taken into the custody of the CID today.

Namal Kumara was arrested yesterday in connection with the clashes that occurred recently.

Namal Kumara was arrested when he arrived at Warakapola police station to make a complaint.

Meanwhile, Leader of the ‘Mahasohon Balakaya’ Amith Weerasinghe, who was arrested yesterday, has been remanded until May 28 by the Colombo Additional Magistrate.
