This suspect was arrested on information received from another suspect who is in custody at present.
44-year-old Jamaldeen Naushad had worked at the Hansard Department of the Parliament as an indexing officer and during Police investigations it was revealed that he had been a long-time member of the National Thowheeth Jamath organization.
The suspect Jamaldeen Naushad had been working at the Parliament for about 12 years.
The duty that he had been assigned as an indexing officer was to separate according to standard topics, views being expressed at Parliamentary debates.
This suspect is a resident of Mawathupola in Alawathugoda and it was revealed during initial investigations that he had been in close contact with the leader of the National Thowheeth Jamath organization Zahran Hashim, a top official in charge of investigations said.
The General Secretary of Parliament has been informed about this employee’s arrest and it was reported that after the Easter Sunday attacks the suspect had not reported to work properly either.
The Defence Ministry has granted permission to the police to detain this suspect for a period of 90 days for interrogation, under Emergency Regulations.
