The Central Environment Authority has ordered Hayleys Free Zone Company to return its waste materials which are piled up at the Katunayake Export Processing Zone to the country of origin without any post-processing.

In addition, the BOI has also warned Hayleys Free Zone to re-export its waste as soon as possible.

At the same time, the Central Environment Authority has instructed the company to take action to prevent the leaking of imported toxic waste to the outer environment and issued strict instructions not to repeat the offence.

The Authority has also stated that Hayleys Free Zone has imported 130 numbers of 40-foot containers of waste on 12 previous occasions.
