VAN+COLLIDES+WITH+A+TRAIN+IN+UNPROTECTED+RAILWAY+CROSSING+IN+THALAWA
One person was injured and hospitalized after a van collided with a train at a railway crossing close to the Thalawa Railway Station last (15) night.

A van traveling towards the town was hit by a train at the railway crossing frequently used to access the Thalawa Railway station and the village situated behind the Railway Station.

Three persons were traveling with the van driver at the time of the accident. The van has been dragged several meters after colliding with the train and had got thrown off the railway tracks.

One person who was traveling in the van has been injured and admitted to the Thalawa Government Hospital and the hospital sources stated that his condition is not serious.

Residents pointed out that the railway crossing is very dangerous since there is no guard at the railway crossing.

The residents of the area stated that there have been accidents in the past and that a railway gate has to be installed and a guard assigned for safety at this crossing which is used frequently used by a large group of people.

Thalawa Police are conducting further investigations.
