Legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara has been offered the post of Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the United Kingdom after he retired from test cricket today.
President Maithripala Sirisena who participated in Sangakkara’s farewell ceremony held at the P. Sara Oval Cricket Ground in Colombo has offered Sangakkara the new position.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, Chairman of the SLC Interim Council Sidath Wettamuni, Sri Lankan and Indian cricketers and several distinguished guests were present at the ceremony.
The President extended the invitation after handing over a memento to Sangakkara.
Meanwhile, cricketer Kumar Sangakkara who bade farewell to Test Cricket today said that President Maithripala Sirisena’s invitation to accept the High Commissioner’s post in the UK was a surprise.
Addressing a media conference held in the afternoon at the Oval ground, Sangakkara responded to the invitation extended by the President, saying that he would discuss the matter with the President and take a decision in due course.

Super cricket star Kumar Sangakkara was offered the post of Sri Lankan High Commissioner for Britain by the President, Maithreepala Sirisena.
The President made this invitation at the farewell function held at P Sara Oval Cricket Grounds in celebration of Sangha's resignation from his career of cricket.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, Mr Sidath Wetthamuni - the President of the Additional Control Board of the Sri Lanka Cricket Association, Sri Lankan and Indian cricketers and several other guests were present at the occasion.
