Captain Eoin Morgan has called England’s display during the opening ODI against Sri Lanka as rusty and said players must get back to basics ahead of the 2nd match in Birmingham.
Chasing 287, England slumped to 82-6 before 93 from Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes’ 95 and Plunkett’s final blow levelled the scores.
Skipper Morgan said, he is proud of the team however the draw masked the overall performance.
Morgan speaking to the BBC said “We were rusty, particularly with the bat. We have to draw a line under it, go back to basics, focus on the things we do well and take that to Edgbaston for the second game on Friday.”
For Sri Lanka, the late drama denied them a first victory over England on the tour, with four ODIs and one Twenty20 remaining. The Lankans have already lost the Test series 2-0 and managed two draws in the practice games.
