New Zealand claimed a six-run win in a thrilling finish to the Chappell-Hadlee series opener against Australia at Eden Park on Monday.

Chasing 287 for victory, the visitors appeared dead and buried at 67-6 before a brilliant century from all-rounder Marcus Stoinis in only his second one-day international took them to the brink of the most unlikely of triumphs.

Stoinis hit 146 not out off just 117 balls, including a remarkable 11 sixes, before Black Caps captain Kane Williamson ran out No 11 Josh Hazlewood from the final ball of the 47th over.
