Kusal Mendis lifts Sri Lanka’s spirits : Australia loses to India

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Sri Lanka did not look all that comfortable during the first session, with Dinesh Chandimal going about his innings in a strangely defensive manner and in the end being dismissed for just five runs after facing 54 deliveries.

However, Kusal Mendis continued to take Sri Lanka forward as he ended the day unbeaten on a well-played 166 in 242 deliveries, with Asela Gunarathne making 85 as well before being bowled out just before stumps by Taskin Ahmed.

At stumps Sri Lanka were 321 for 4 after 88overs.

Meanwhile, Australia were the clear favourites to walk away victorious from the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test match at 42-1 at one point, chasing a target of 188.

But thanks to some extraordinary bowling from the Indians, the Aussies were bowled out for just 112 with Ravichandran Ashwin taking 6wickets for 41runs.

It is the first time in history that four different bowlers walked away with six-wicket hauls.

The bowlers were Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazelwood, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. The series now remains tied with one win each for both countries with two more matches to go.
