From 5/59, a busy, unbroken 107-run stand between Sikandar Raza and Malcolm Waller brought Zimbabwe charging back into the game, after Rangana Herath had earlier wiped out the top order, and Sri Lanka threatened to skittle the visitors out.

Herath knocked out Zimbabwe's top order ending the day with figures of 4/85 in 23overs with a wicket a piece for Dilruwan Perera and Lahiru Kumara as well.

All this followed a milestone for Zimbabwe's own lead spinner - Graeme Cremer - who became the first captain from his nation to take a five-wicket haul.

As it stands at stumps on day three, Zimbabwe are effectively 262 ahead, with two set batsmen in, and four wickets in hand.

Malcolm Waller remained unbeaten on 57 and Sikandar Raza, nearing his century, remained unbeaten on 97.
