A decisive 8th wicket stand of 100 runs between MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar helped India beat Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in the second ODI in Pallekele.

Bhuvneshwar remained 53 not out while Dhoni was 45 not out. It was the highest eighth wicket partnership for India in ODIs.

With this India take 2 nil lead in the 5-match ODI series.

At one stage, India were 7 down for 131 runs in the 22nd over as Akila Dhananjaya ran through the Indian batting, bagging six wickets.

Dhananjaya bagged 6 wickets for 54 runs off 10 overs. It was the 12th occasion in ODI history that a bowler has taken 6 wickets and still ended up on the losing side.

Rohit Sharma (54) and Shikar Dhawan (49) added 109 for the first wicket.

Batting first, Sri Lanka made 236 for 8.

The game was restricted to 47 overs due to rain and India were given a revised target of 231.
