Newly-wed Akila Dananjaya's sensational spell of bowling got Sri Lanka so close to recording their first win over India in the bilateral series but the hosts were left cursing their luck as MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar pulled off a sensational three-wicket win to maintain India's unbeaten run on the tour on Thursday at the Pallekele International Stadium.

When India slumped to 131 for 7, Sri Lanka was eyeing a huge win, but Dhoni produced a master class by adding 100 runs for the eighth wicket with Bhuvneshwar to guide India through with 16 deliveries to spare.

It was the highest eighth wicket stand for India in ODIs.

Sri Lanka's interim coach, Nic Pothas said that it’s frustrating, when you are not winning games regularly, and it is quite hard to get the momentum back again.
