Update: Rohit Sharma takes India to victory – bottle throwing delays Indian win



A superb knock of unbeaten 124 off 145 balls by Rohit Sharma helped India to defeat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the third ODI at Pallekele today (27).

It was Rohit Sharma’s first ODI hundred in Sri Lanka.

MS Dhoni also made 67 not out off 81 balls. Sharma and Dhoni added 157 runs for the 5th wicket.

India reached the target of 218 losing 4 wickets in 45.1 overs.

Akila Dhananjaya captured 2 wickets for 38.

Earlier, batting first, Sri Lanka managed only 217 for 9 with Lahiru Thirimanne making 80 off 105 balls.

Dinesh Chandimal (36) and Malinda Siriwardana (29) also helped to propel the struggling Sri Lankan inning.

For India, B. Bumrah bagged 5 wickets for 27 runs, his first 5-wicket haul in ODI's.

After 15.1 overs, India were 4 down for 61 runs.

In the 44 over of the Indian innings, the play was held up when spectators occupying the grass banks started throwing bottles into the ground from beyond the extra-cover boundary.

However, the authorities thereafter decided to clear the spectators from the grass banks and restarted the match at around 10:30pm.

With this win, India take an unassailable 3 nil lead in the 5-match series.
