SLC to invite former cricketers to revive national team

Sri Lanka Cricket is planning to rope in former cricketers such as Aravinda de Silva, Roshan Mahanama, Brendon Kuruppu, Graeme Labrooy and Mahela Jayawardene in an attempt to revive the national cricket team.

In a report filed by Cricinfo, Labrooy and Kuruppu have confirmed that SLC has approached them, while Mahanama has said he has not been approached so far.

Labrooy is currently an ICC match referee.

Sri Lanka cricketers suffered their worst lost in recent times, when they were routed by India, in all 3 formats.

De Silva, for example, would return to his role as cricket advisor, some board officials hope.

Meanwhile, when we contacted de Silva, while confirming the SLC invitation, he said that the discussions are still underway in this regard.

The SLC officials also would also like Mahanama, Kuruppu and Labrooy to become selectors.

Ideally Jayawardene might also come in as a consultant.

And the only reason officials have not set their sights on Kumar Sangakkara is because he is still playing cricket overseas.

The public has also vent their anger against the cricket selectors during the Indian tour citing inconsistence in selections.

The Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera is also hoping to get many of these former players together for a brainstorming session on how SLC might turn cricket around, over the next week or so.
