Amitabh Choudhary, the acting secretary of the BCCI confirms that Steven Smith and David Warner would not be a part of IPL 2018.

It was reported that Smith has withdrawn from his IPL contract as he has been told his security could not be guaranteed in India.

Both players, captains of their respective franchises Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, had already stepped down from their positions as leaders of the side, but now find themselves out of the team too.

Earlier in the day, Steven Smith and David Warner were banned for 12 months by Cricket Australia for their roles in the pre-meditated plan to tamper with the ball on the third day of the Cape Town Test against South Africa.

They stepped down as captain and vice-captain respectively when their actions were exposed.

Cameron Bancroft, the player to actually tamper with the ball, has been banned for nine months.
