The quarterfinals of the 2018 Fifa world cup begins today.

The first match will be played between 1998 champions France and Uruguay.

Winners of their respective groups, both nations overcame tough last-16 fixtures by the odd goal, with France progressing from a seven-goal thriller with Argentina and Uruguay edging past Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.

The Uruguay camp is worried about the fitness of the forward Edinson Cavani, who scored the winning goals against Portugal.

Meanwhile, France is dominant on the card, but the fast-moving tactics of the South Americans have already captivated the audience.

Today's second game will be played between Brazil and Belgium.

Brazil midfielder Casemiro is suspended and will be replaced by Fernandinho, head coach Tite has confirmed.

Left-back Marcelo, who was not fully fit for their last game, has recovered from a back problem and will reclaim a starting spot from Filipe Luis.

Winger Douglas Costa is also available, having overcome a muscle injury.

Belgium is hopeful that winger Adnan Januzaj will be fit, having been unavailable for their last match because of an unspecified injury.
Head coach Roberto Martinez has reported no other fitness concerns.
