Jimmy Neesham displayed an all-round performance as he picked up three crucial wickets for the Kiwis, scripting the win for the hosts.

Kusal Perera fired a quick century in just 82 balls, but it did not prove enough to get past the 372-run target.

Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 326.

Earlier, Kiwis had put up 371/7 in 50 overs on the board with Neesham firing 47 runs in 13 balls and Martin Guptill scoring a ton.

Guptill was named player of the match as New Zealand now lead the three-match series 1-0.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's players have been fined 10 per cent of their match fee, while their captain Lasith Malinga has been slapped with a 20 per cent fine for maintaining a slow over rate.

The visitors were deemed to be one over short of their target, with time allowances for wickets and stoppages taken into consideration.
