Former Sri Lankan Test opener Chandika Hathurusingha, has been appointed head coach of New South Wales.

Anthony Stuart, who had been New South Wales head coach since last May, was informed of the move to not renew his contract after a board meeting on Tuesday.

Australian Trevor Bayliss, who has coached Sri Lanka previously, is said to be NSW's prime candidate for the head coach role.

But Bayliss is currently involved with the Sri Lanka Premier League T20 team Wayamba, Sydney Sixers, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
