Mathews guards against complacency

Angelo Mathews warned Sri Lanka not to dwell on their previous successes as they prepare to take on South Africa today.

Sri Lanka enjoyed a productive tour of England in May and June, winning the five-match one-day international series 3-2 before clinching a 1-0 victory in the two-match Test series after a dramatic conclusion at Headingley.

Those triumphs came on the back of glory in both the Asia Cup and World T20 earlier in the year.

With three ODIs and two Test matches scheduled against South Africa this month, Mathews knows his team cannot afford to reflect on former glories and take the tourists lightly.

He said, I quote: "We've clicked as a team in all 3 departments, we find ways of winning those tough situations, so that has been the key for us.

"But I think we can't become complacent against the South Africans. The England series is past now, we've got to move on and play good cricket to beat the South Africans. Unquote.
