Mathews disappointed with Sri Lanka showing
Angelo Mathews rued a "rusty" display from Sri Lanka as they suffered defeat in their opening one-day international with South Africa.
Late acceleration from South Africa's middle order enabled the tourists to post an imposing total of 304-5 in Colombo yesterday.
Sri Lanka lost their last eight wickets for 107 runs to be dismissed for 229 inside 41 overs.
Mathews acknowledged his side did not perform to their best and must improve quickly to stay in the three-match series.
Sri Lanka's skipper at the post-match presentation said that they had a bad day at the office and that South Africa played better cricket and we were rusty.
He also went on to say, I quote: After the start we got, the middle order made some poor shot selection and that cost us the game.
"It was a very good wicket and the margin of error was very small.
"We are definitely under pressure but it's pretty simple, we have to pull our socks up and win." Unquote.
The second ODI between Sri Lanka and South Africa takes place in Pallekele on Wednesday.
