Update: Bus fare reduced with effect from February 1st

External Transport Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara said that 8 to 10% would be reduced in all bus fares with effect from February.

Addressing a media conference held at his ministry this morning, the minister said the current 9 rupees minimum bus fare would be reduced by 8 rupees.

In addition, current 13 rupees bus fare would be reduced to 12 rupees.

Bus fares between 18 to 34 rupees would be reduced by two rupees while bus fares between rupees 37 to 41 would be reduced by 3 rupees.

Under the new bus fare revision, 4 rupees would be reduced from bus fares between rupees 44 to 59 while 5 rupees would be reduced from bus fares between rupees 62 to 64.

The highest current bus fare 708 rupees would cut down to 651 rupees under the new bus fare revision.

Bus fare lowered from February 1st

Internal Transport Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara states that the all the bus fares would be lowered by 8-10 percent from February 1.

The Minister stated this at a media briefing currently underway in Colombo. The decision was taken concurrent to the recent declines in fuel prices. Therefore, the minimum bus fare would be lowered from the current Rs.9 to Rs.8.
