"Maithree Paalanaya Pleases US" - Nisha Bishwal

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Biswal said that US President Barack Obama and his administration was pleased with the new type of governance in Sri Lanka.

She expressed these comments after calling on President Maithripala Sirisena last afternoon at the Presidential Secretariat.

The US Assistant Secretary of State said that the world is talking  about Sri Lanka’s democracy “for all the right reasons”.

President Maithripala Sirisena had said during the discussion that a conducive environment has been built to rebuild bilateral ties between Sri Lanka and the US.

The President also said that he expected the US to act with proper understanding with regard to issues pertaining to human rights.

President Sirisena also stated that Sri Lanka needs to continue its programme of reconciliation and hence requested US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal to buy time for this purpose.

Meanwhile, speaking at another event held in Colombo, President Maithripala Sirisena said that one should not fear to face challenges.
