5 countries including the U.S. have agreed to the proposal to conduct a domestic investigation into war crimes allegedly to have taken place during the final stage of the war.

This was revealed during the media conference convened to inform Cabinet decisions held at the Department of Information today.

Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Rajitha Senarathna further explained regarding Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera’s recent official visit to the US.

He said that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka during this year.

The minister also said that the private sector employers have promised to increase their workers’ minimum basic salary from Rs. 7,500 to Rs. 10,000.

The private sector has taken this step in response to the government’s interim budget proposal to increase the salary of private sector employees by Rs. 2,500.

In addition, the government has decided to gazette the names of goods which were subjected to price reductions as per the recent interim budget.

The decision was taken since the consumers have not received the benefits of price reductions entirely.
