Wimal Weerawansa to CID

The NFF leader and former minister Wimal Weerawansa accompanied a lawyer and reported to the Special Investigation Unit of the CID this morning.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that CID had called for the MP Wimal Weerawansa in connection with a complaint made against him by Kaduwela PS Chairman G.H.  Buddhadasa.

The Police Media Spokesman said that MP Wimal Weerawansa’s name was mentioned in the Buddhadasa’s complaint saying that MP Weerawanasa was taking part in an illegal protest march held on the 17th of July in 2011.

MP Weerawansa was called to the CID Special Unit in order to obtain a statement with regard to Buddhadasa’s complaint.

Meanwhile Police Media Spokesman’s office stated that former Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s wife is receiving further treatment at a private hospital in Malabe under police protection.

Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s wife was arrested last afternoon while she is receiving treatment at this hospital for possessing a forged diplomatic passport.

She was arrested for possessing a forged passport under the 45th Clause of the Immigration and Emigration Act.

The police media spokesman also said that further action would be taken after she is examined by a Judicial Medical Officer today.
