Sushma prepares Indian premier's visit

Indian Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj held talks with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.

She arrived in the island yesterday to prepare the agenda of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sri Lankan tour.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be the first Indian Premier to arrive in the island for bilateral talks after 25 years, will tour Sri Lanka on the 13th and 14th of this month.

Previously, Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi visited Sri Lanka and signed the India – Sri Lanka MOU in 1987.  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to address the parliament during his Sri Lankan tour.

In addition, he is expected to visit Jaffna, Trincomalee, and the Eastern province.

Meanwhile, Indian Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today.
