The Justice Ministry’s attention has been drawn in intensifying the law against those illegally producing and selling alcohol that is fast spreading in the island’s rural areas.

Justice and Labour relations Ministry announced that it had been decided to impose prison sentences instead of fines on persons committing more than three offences.

Discussion was also held about this at the Narcotics Prevention Operation Committee held yesterday with Justice Minister Dr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa at the chair.

On this occasion it was disclosed that although persons producing narcotics like moonshine, marijuana and toddy were arrested and produced before court, they continue being engaged in these illegal actions after being released after paying the fines.
