Qatar to support Oil exploration in SL

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad yesterday officially expressed his government's willingness to support Sri Lanka's oil exploration efforts.

During bilateral discussions held between the President and Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad at the Presidential Secretariat, the Emir expressed his government's willingness to assist the Sri Lankan government's efforts to solve the problem of drinking water in the North and Eastern provinces.

Following the bilateral discussions, three Memorandums of Understanding were signed on Cooperation in the fields of Sports, Mutual Cooperation on Exchange of News and Youth.

The Memorandums of Understanding for the purpose of strengthening the cooperation in the field of sports will focus on the development and cooperation in the sports that required by persons with handicaps and sports facilities, among others.

The Emir has pledged to widen the investment opportunities in Sri Lanka for the Qatari investors.

The high level delegation accompanied by the Emir of Qatar comprised Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Energy, Finance, and Economy and Trade as well as senior officials of the Government of Qatar.
