The European Union has decided to uphold the ban imposed on the LTTE, irrespective of the order issued by the Court of Justice of the European Union.

This decision was taken during the meeting convened by the Council of the European Union yesterday, with the participation of 28 member countries.

Acting Foreign Minister Ajith P. Perera said that after imposing the ban, LTTE will be enlisted as a terrorist organization in countries under European Union.

The General court of the European Union issued a verdict last year to lift the ban on LTTE.

Then Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe extended a special appeal to the European Union, to reconsider this verdict.

The Acting Foreign Minister stated that, the Foreign Affairs Ministry once again appealed to impose the ban.
