Step-father arrested for selling 8 year old child for 50 thousand rupees

Police arrested 3 persons in Katugastota in connection with selling an 8 year old boy for Rs. 50,000.

According to Katugastota Police, the boy was sold to a woman in Warakapola by the child’s stepfather, two days ago.

It has been revealed that the child’s mother was unaware that her child was sold.

The mother, a resident of Ambatenna in Katugastota, has lodged a complaint to the police, stating that the child has gone missing for few days.

Later during the questioning, it was revealed that the child’s stepfather has sold the child.

A spokesman at the police told our news team that when the child was discovered they noticed several scrape injuries on his body.

The child, who was handed over to his mother, has been admitted to Kandy Hospital for treatment.

The step father, the woman who bought the child as well as another person who assisted the transaction are to be produced before the court.
