The European Union and Sri Lanka have started the process that may lead to the readmission of Sri Lanka to the status of GSP+.

Ugo Astuto, the Acting Managing Director of the Asia and Pacific Division of the European External Action Service, at a media briefing said that the GSP+ benefit is effective on the compliance of 27 UN conventions.

He also said that they expected to re-assess the ban on Sri Lankan fisheries products imposed in the EU.
