Did the Colonel shoot his wife? Pistol retrieved from Diyawannawa

The Navy retrieved the pistol from Diyawanna Oya near the Japan Friendship Bridge today, which was allegedly used by an army colonel to shoot his wife at Isurupura in Malabe.

Later the suspect was arrested by police based on a statement recorded from the colonel’s driver.

Police are questioning the arrested army colonel in connection with the shooting incident.

The 47-year old victim is estranged from his colonel husband and has filed a divorce case against the suspect.  

Later, Court has denied the suspect of access to the residence of the victim.

The victim was shot at while she was remaining inside her residence, on the night of August 27th.

During the questioning, the colonel’s driver has told police that he drove the suspect to Isurupura on the fateful night and, he remained in the vehicle after the colonel left.

He also stated that after a short while, the colonel returned, drove the vehicle towards parliament and threw his pistol into Diyawanna Oya.
