Former Minister Mahindananda taken into remand custody

Former Sports Minister MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage was ordered to be remanded until September 22nd , when he was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate today.

The former minister was summoned to the CID this morning to give a statement with regard to a complaint lodged against him in connection with alleged money laundering.

MP Aluthgamage was arrested by the CID later.

MP Aluthgamage was levelled with charges relating to the suspicious earnings of Rs. 27 million, which was used to build a house on Kinsey Road in Colombo 7.

Several MPs of the Joint Opposition were present in the Court premises when MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage was produced before the Magistrate.

Meanwhile, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at the Welikada Prison to pay a visit to the remanded MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage this evening.
