Tense situation erupts in front of Pussellawa Police, following the death of a man arrested under warrant

A Tense situation erupted in front of Pussellawa Police this afternoon, after a group of estate workers staged a protest.

The protest was staged after a man – who was arrested under warrant - committed suicide by hanging inside the police cell.

The estate workers stated that they are suspicious of the death of the relevant youth.

Traffic along Nuwara Eliya – Gampola main road was disrupted due to the 4 hours long protest.

However, our correspondent noted that Minister Palani Digambaran arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.

The protest was called off after the Minister explained facts to the protestors.

A 30 year old suspect from Pussellawa committed suicide by hanging inside Pussellawa Police cell.

He was arrested by the police following a warrant issued by the Helboda Court yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Police Headquarters noted that 2 police officers attached to the Pussellawa Police have been interdicted in connection with the incident.
