A couple has committed suicide following their two sons drowning in the seas of the coast of Pasikudah early this morning.

The bodies of 54-year-old Velupillai Sammugan and 46-year-old Yoga Lakshmi were found hanging from a tree in their compound at Kalkuda in Valachchenai early this morning.

Police said that a group of youths including the two victims had been bathing in an unsafe area yesterday afternoon. The brothers, 18-year-old Suresh Kumar and 21-year-old Sadish Kumar were caught in a current and had drifted away.

The Navy have launched a search operation in Pasikudah following the incident.
