Ministry of Health has declared the week beginning September 27th to October 3rd as a National Mosquito Control Week, to launch island wide campaigns for mosquito eradication.
Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala addressing a media conference held in Colombo said island wide cleaning campaigns in identified mosquito breeding places, as well as awareness programs will be conducted with the aim of eradicating the spread of the dengue epidemic as well as the Zika Virus.
The Police, President's special task force on dengue prevention, members of the tri- forces and health officials will jointly conduct the activities during the week.
Special attention will be given to school premises.
Dr. Mahipala said stern action will be taken against persons who are found to be negligent and allow for dengue breeding.
