Need Rs. 300,000 more to aid the convicted army official- MP Gunawardena

Collection of funds to aid former Army officer accused of shooting a LTTE cardre took place in Kandy yesterday.

The sum was collected as compensation to relatives of the deceased LTTE cardre.

Speaking at the event MP Bandula Gunawardena said about Rs. 300,000 more is needed to complete the sum.

The army officer was recently found guilty of murdering the LTTE cadre while he attempted to escape from Point Pedro camp in 1998.

The court ordered the officer to pay Rs. 2 million to relatives as compensation.
