Estate workers continue their strike

Estate workers are continuing their strike for the third day today, demanding to increase their daily wages to Rs. 1000.

Hiru Correspondent said the estate workers in Hatton, Dikoya, Maskeliya, Bogawanthalawa, Castlereagh and Nuwara Eliya protested for one hour this morning.

As a result of a protest by workers in Labukele area traffic in Nuawara Eliya- Kandy was hindered.

The two-year collective wage agreement between the estate workers and the estate owners was to be signed last May.

However the signing of the agreement was delayed as the two factions did not agreed on the percentage of the salary increment.
