Estate workers throughout the island staged protests today, demanding the authorities to increase their daily wage upto 1000 rupees.

Our correspondents stated that traffic congestion was caused on Colombo -Ratnapura Road, the Hatton-Colombo Road, Galle- Udugama Road and the Kandy- Jaffna Road due to these protests.
