Estate Workers’ protest blocks traffic in Colombo- Kandy road

Estate workers staged protests in several towns today demanding an increase in their daily wage to 1000 rupees.

Our Correspondent stated that in Kegalle, traffic was congested along Colombo Kandy main road due to one such protest. 

It was reported that labourers from nine surrounding estates had joined the protest.

In Uva Paranagama, another group of estate workers staged a protest at Rathamba Junction this morning.

Meanwhile, the Minister of labor  W.D.J. Senevirathna stated that the collective agreement which includes a new daily wage for estate workers will be signed tomorrow.
