A plane carrying Donald Trump’s running mate Mike Pence has skidded off the runway at New York City's LaGuardia Airport.

The incident took place as the Republican’s plane came in to land at the international airport, according to US media.

The plane was on a three-hour flight to New York from Fort Dodge, in Iowa, when it made the rough landing in heavy rain, causing the pilot slammed on the brakes.

Mr Pence was checked to make sure he was not injured while emergency crews were rushed to the scene.

Trump spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said: "Mr Trump did reach out to Gov Pence. He's glad that everyone on board is safe.”

No injuries were immediately reported.
