Two persons suspected to be from AAVA gang apprehended

Police arrested two persons armed with sharp weapons, in Jaffna yesterday.

Police had carried out the arrest following a lead received that the suspicious looking pair had arrived on a motorbike and were standing on the road side armed with weapons.

Subsequently, the suspects said that they had were to attend a karate training and had the weapons in their possession for that reason.

Earlier police had launched investigations in search of motorbike gangs called “AAVA” who have been moving about in several areas in the north.

A senior police spokesman told our news team that three police squads had been deployed for this search operation.

Police had received information to the effect that this motorbike gang operated in Chunnakam, Kopai and Manipay.
