Revelations that 25% of bus drivers drive under the influence of drugs

New laws should be in place to take action against bus drivers who drive under the influence of drugs, Sri Lanka Private Bus Owners Association says.

The Chairman of the association, Gemunu Wijeratne attending a media briefing held in Colombo, noted that the association proposes a fine of 50,000 rupees to be imposed on those driving under the influence of drugs.

He added that nearly 25 per cent of bus drivers, drive in Colombo and city limits under the influence of marijuana and heroin.
